Rovinj in Front of a Million German Viewers
26.8.2026
Rovinj was given a special place in the 90-minute “Wunderschön” travel documentary, one of Germany’s most successful travel programmes, presenting Istria to a million-strong German-speaking audience.
In cooperation with the Istria Tourist Board and its long-standing PR partner, ART Redaktionsteam from Salzburg, the German television crew spent several days exploring almost the entire Istrian peninsula, showcasing its natural beauty, cultural heritage, gastronomy, activities and, above all, its people and their stories.
Rovinj holds a special place in the programme, presented as one of the pearls of Istria. Viewers are introduced to the city’s iconic scenery, historic centre, narrow stone streets and the Church of St. Euphemia, while also discovering Rovinj through its contemporary gastronomic scene.
The gastronomic segment features Monte Restaurant and the story of Tjitske Đekić and her family, highlighting how local ingredients, tradition and Istrian identity are interpreted through contemporary gastronomy at the highest level. Rovinj is thus presented not only as an attractive coastal destination, but also as a place where rich heritage, authentic stories and outstanding culinary experiences come together.
The documentary was produced for WDR, MDR and SWR, with further broadcasts planned on other channels of the German television network, including NDR, RBB and SR, as well as on 3sat for audiences in Austria and Switzerland and via the ARD Mediathek. The premiere is expected to reach around two million viewers, while repeated broadcasts are projected to bring the total audience to more than five million viewers.
The programme is hosted by well-known German television presenter Stephanie Müller-Spirra, while the director is award-winning journalist and author Stephan Heise.
In this major television production, Rovinj emerges as an authentic face of Istria – a city of exceptional beauty and rich history, but also a destination that successfully combines its traditions with contemporary tourism, gastronomy and lifestyle.
This international media exposure further strengthens Rovinj’s position as one of Istria’s most recognisable destinations in the German-speaking market and contributes to its visibility as a destination worth visiting throughout the year.
The programme is also available to watch on the YouTube channel.
