Following last year’s successful edition of the Adris RC44 Cup, this year the organizers raised the competition’s rank, so Rovinj will be host to the World Championships in the RC44 class. RC44 is a world tour comprising 5 regattas in 5 different locations across the world

Following last year’s successful edition of the Adris RC44 Cup, this year the organizers raised the competition’s rank, so Rovinj will be host to the World Championships in the RC44 class. RC44 is a world tour comprising 5 regattas in 5 different locations across the world. In 2012, the RC44 Cup was held in Puerto Calero in the Canaries, in Cascais, Portugal, Traunsee, Austria, Marstrandu, Sweden, and in Rovinj. All regatta teams sail on RC44 yachts designed by Russell Coutts, a four-time winner of the America’s Cup who will participate in Rovinj’s RC44 World Championships. The World Championships in Rovinj will feature the best yachters in the world, winners of Olympic medals, America’s Cup, and may other regattas. In addition to Coutts, Rovinj will welcome Paul Cayaed, Ed Baird, Cameron Appelton, Larry Ellison, Marcus Wieser and many others.
The RC44 class is known as Formula 1 of yachting and the boats, somewhat smaller versions of the America’s Cup boats, were built using the same technology used to build formula car chassis.
The races of the Regatta will be broadcast and commented live from 11.30 until 16.00 h in Marshal Tito Square via a 3.6 x 2.7 m LED display. Live coverage of the regatta will last from Friday through Sunday, October 5 – 7, 2012 when at the end on the final day will be also broadcasted the awards ceremony.

ADRIS RC44 - Betoverende zeilen
De ADRIS RC44 zeilrace, die voor de tweede keer werd gehouden, bood ook nu weer spectaculaire beelden –bollende zeilen op de wijde zee- en een tot het einde toe spannend wedstrijdverloop, die de verwachtingen van de organisatoren en vele zeilliefhebbers wereldwijd hebben overtroffen.
Rovinj is een van de organiserende steden van de Wereld Tour, de zeilwedstrijd die wel wordt vergeleken met de Formule 1. Daarmee valt Rovinj in een select gezelschap van mondiale toeristische toppers. Ook heeft de stad de organisatie toebedeeld gekregen van de afsluitende regatta van het wereldkampioenschap.
De Adris RC 44 Cup was dit jaar tot het eind toe spannend. Pas in de laatste honderd meter werd duidelijk dat de Britse Peninsula Petroleum zou winnen. Het schip van eigenaar John Bassadone voer onder gezagsvoerder Vasco Vascotti een fantastische race, waarin het met een neuslengte verschil de titel wegkaapte voor de Aqui van Chris Baker en Cameron Appleton, die echter wonnen bij het vlootzeilen. Het Sloveense schip Ceerefu van Igor Lah werd derde en het Russische scip Synergy vierde.
Organisator van deze prijzige race in de Rovinjse wateren was de Kroatische Zeilbond, hoofdsponsor en gastheer was de Adris Grupa.
