POPOLANA- DE GROOTSTE EN MEEST AFWISSELENDE SPORTIEVE EN RECREATIEVE MANIFESTATIE VAN ROVINJ
Meer dan 1.800 deelnemers
In Rovinj, de stad van de heilige Eufemia, werd dit jaar voor de tiende keer (een jubileum!) de manifestatie “Popolana” gehouden. Meer dan 1.800 mensen namen deel aan talloze sportieve en recreatieve wedstrijden, toernooien en krachtmetingen. Het driedaagse evenement werd in goede banen geleid door maar liefst 200 vrijwilligers en meer dan 150 professionals. Mede door hun bijdrage kon aan jong en oud het belang van sport en sportieve recreatie in het alledaagse leven worden getoond. Popolana trapte af met sport voor de kleintjes, kinderen van Roma-kleuterscholen en basisscholen. Die eerste dag, met meer dan duizend deelnemers, werd fraai opgeluisterd door aantrekkelijke optredens van het blaasorkest en de majorettes van Rovinj en het animatieteam van Maistra. Op de tweede dag was Popolana gewijd aan schaken, electronisch darts, tennis voor kinderen, straatbasketbal, mini handball, tae-kwon do, aikido en karate. Ook waren er wedstrijden visjacht onderwater en sportvissen vanaf een schip en vanaf de kade Valdibora. Een speciaal onderdeel van Popolana was de viering van de Werelddansdag. Onder leiding van de stichting Roxanna kwamen er in de Valbruna-hal gaven dan 350 dansers uit verschillende steden uit Kroatie en Frankrijk acte de présence. Maar de climax was de laatste dag, waar het startschot werd gegeven voor maar liefst vijf wedstrijden: een wedstrijd voor handibikes (4e keer), de halve marathon van Rovinj (12e keer), een hardloopwedstrijd over 10 km, een recreatieve hardloopwedstrijd over 5 km (10e keer) en ten slotte een wedstrijd over 1 kilometer, waaraan voornamelijk leden van de Stichting van Personen met een Invaliditeit deelnamen. Dat Popolana in tien jaar is uitgegroeid tot een manifestatie van hoog niveau, dankt het aan het goede voorbereidende werk door de sportraad van de gemeente Rovinj en de ondersteuning van het Bureau voor Toerisme, Maistra en de gemeente Rovinj. Maar Popolana is ook bekend geworden door de liefdadigheid. Ieder jaar worden er speciale t-shirts ontworpen met het embleem van Popolana, die, samen met handgemaakte voorwerpen en bloemen op kraampjes worden verkocht voor aantrekkelijke prijzen. Zo werd dit jaar tijdens de manifestatie 26.000 kuna verzameld, een bedrag dat zal worden overgemaakt naar de Stichting van Personen met een Invaliditeit in Rovinj.
