ON POPOLANA – ROVINJ’S LARGEST AND MOST DIVERSE SPORTING AND RECREATIONAL EVENT
More than 1,800 participants
This year's tenth anniversary edition of Popolana, with its many sporting and recreational competitions and tournaments, attracted more than 1,800 participants to the town of St. Euphemia. During this three-day event, two hundred volunteers and over a hundred and fifty sports professionals and friends of sports gave their great contribution to the event, which aims to highlight the importance of sport and recreation in the everyday life of people of all ages - from the youngest to the oldest pensioners. Popolana began with sporting competitions of the youngest participants, children from Rovinj kindergartens and primary schools, and on the first day of the event, with an attractive appearance of members of the Rovinj Brass Band and Rovinj Majorettes, and the Maistra entertainment team, brought together more than a thousand participants.
The second day was devoted to numerous sporting events - tournaments in chess, electronic darts, children's tennis, street basketball, mini handball, Karate, Aikido, Tae-Kwon-Do, and the competition in underwater fishing and sport fishing from the boats and the Valdibora quay. A special part of the event was the celebration of the World Dance Day under the baton of the Roxanne Club, which included the performances of more than 350 artists from all over Croatia and the guests from France, in one place and in the Valbruna hall.
The last day was marked by five races – ‘4th Handbike (Handcycle) Race‘, ‘12th Rovinj Half Marathon’ ten-kilometer race, ‘10th recreational five-kilometer race’ and start of the one-kilometer race where the main contestants were members of the Rovinj Association of People with Disabilities. Besides its excellent organization for over the past decade, under the umbrella of the Rovinj Sports Federation and with the full cooperation of the Tourist Board, Maistra and the town of Rovinj, Popolana is also known for its humanitarian character. For every edition special T-shirts with the emblem of Popolana are made and sold at promotional prices on stands, together with handmade products and flowers. Twenty-six thousand Kuna was raised during the event and will be donated to the Rovinj Association of People with Disabilities.
