New Splendour and Invigoration of Grisia

The 50th jubilee "Grisia" was finalized with the award ceremony. “Grisia“ is one of the oldest, richest and largest art exhibitions under the Mediterranean sky that takes place every other Sunday during August in the town of St. Euphemia. On this day, on a meandering cobblestone old town Grisia Street, signed paintings, sculptures and works of art are exhibited and the entire event is enhanced by various performances - in one word, this is the day when art is fully celebrated. However, since art does not have borders nor does it know them, and since we should not discuss preferences, the (un)grateful function of judges in the evaluation committee this year was executed by art historians - Marijana Paula Ferenčić, Klaudio Štefančić and Paulo Toffolutti. This team of international and expert members declared Andrej Beštek, a young student from Zagreb, to be the winner of Grisia 2016 rewarding him with a money voucher and a prosciutto. The runner-up was Tomislav Brajnović, an academic painter, and the third place was won by his colleague Jasna Šikanja, an academic painter as well. Sisters Lucija and Martina Ukić won the fourth place, while the "Maistra" award was given to Dominik Grdić. We also want to emphasize that this year's Grisia featured some changes – from the sector-based division (children, amateurs and academic artists and students) to ensuring exhibition areas for artists. As per the request made by the employees of the Rovinj Heritage Museum who organized the event, this year, the vendors who are usually stationed on the Grisia Street, moved their merchandise off the walls, stairs and mannequins into their shops thereby providing space to exhibit paintings and other artworks. We would also like to ad that this year's Grisia, after a whole string of years, attracted a large number of academic painters and other exhibitors. In terms of numbers, 150 authors exhibited their works, including eight children positioned in the area of Small Grisia (Garzotto Street), sixty-eight self-taught artists and seventy-six authors bearing the academic title.
