Traditional Easter Celebration in Rovinj

This year’s Easter celebration in Rovinj began on Saturday, April 19th, with the first Feel the breeze of Rovinj tour of the year. For everyone interested in learning more about Rovinj’s cultural and historical landmarks, the tour was led by a local guide and began in front of the Rovinj-Rovigno Tourist Board, at Trg na mostu 2. Besides a stroll along the old town streets, the tour included brief stops at points of interest: Garibaldi Street, a family cobbler shop in Zdenac Street, Bregovita Street, the belvedere, the Church of St. Euphemia, including a tour of the church, Grisia Street, Porečka Street, Garzotto Street, Veli trg Square, Vrata pod zidom Street, the harbour, M. Tito Square, the town clock, and the Batana Eco-museum. During the tour, in the old town street of Casale, participants were greeted by a musical program with musicians who performed old traditional Rovinj tunes of bitinada and aria da nuoto. In Spàcio Matika, the local version of a tavern or a wine cellar, participants were able to taste simple fish dishes, such as salted anchovies and the like. The tour also included a visit to the Church of St. Francis of Assisi and the monastery collection, which houses a large number of liturgical objects and valuable works of art and sculpture.

On Easter Sunday, visitors were welcomed with a special program at Rovinj’s main town square. In the morning, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Rovinj musicians Sugar Notes and Pink Margarita performed, and all visitors had the chance to sample a free traditional Rovinj Easter menu – salted anchovies, Easter bread and sweet fritters, prepared jointly by the Tourist Board and the Association "House of the batana". During the same period, Kittinaskrinjica entertained the youngest guests with face painting. In the afternoon, from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Rovinj Music Lab held a final concert, so as to share the participants’ newly acquired knowledge with all lovers of good music.

According to data from the eVisitor system, from the beginning of the year until April 21st, 257,512 overnight stays were recorded, which is a 7% increase compared to the same period in 2024. These overnight stays came from 86,784 arrivals, marking an 11% increase compared to the same period last year.
During this period, the highest number of overnight stays were made by domestic guests, accounting for 30%, followed by Slovenians (18%), Austrians (16%), Germans (10%), and Serbians (7%).
Over the Easter weekend, 11,000 tourists stayed in Rovinj, with the largest share coming from Germany (23%), followed by Austria (16%), domestic tourists (13%), Slovenians (9%), and Serbians (8%).
