Kantinon Tavern Welcomes Guests

Maistra’s Kantinon Tavern is back in business after its winter break with a fresh concept, the brainchild of Croatia’s star sommelier Emil Perdec and Hotel Monte Mulini’s Chef Tomislav Gretić. Kantinon Tavern will showcase the diverse range of foods that Rovinj has to offer, prepared only from the freshest and locally sourced ingredients. The opening attracted a large number of food and wine aficionados who were served a wonderful menu featuring simple seasonal dishes, risottos, pastas and trays with local produce. The drinks menu is equally interesting, including the finest Istrian wines, liqueurs, grappa and beer served in one-litre mugs. Kantinon is a revival of the original Rovinj tavern offering original Rovinj cuisine, which includes cooking vessels being used as serving vessels as well, while cold cuts like prosciutto, pancetta and cheese are served on wooden cutting boards with olive oil and olives. It is interesting that the tavern is set in a historic landmark building, once a wine cellar, which is the origin of the tavern’s name (cantina is the Italian word for cellar).
