Port of Rovinj – the Pearl of Adriatic

The Port of Rovinj has been awarded the Silver Medal by the French Fédération du Patrimoine Maritime Méditerranéen (Federation of Mediterranean Maritime Heritage) for participation in the project «Mémoire des Ports Méditerranés», in which a hundred Mediterranean ports were involved. The project application was prepared by the Batana Ecomuseum in collaboration with the Rovinj Port Authority.

“We participated in this prestigious project with the intention of presenting the maritime culture of Rovinj and its fishing port through the perspective of a small autochthonous fishing boat batana,” said Marino Budicin, a historian and the Deputy Mayor of Rovinj. Budicin is also the author of the project essay “Port of Rovinj – the Pearl of Adriatic” where he pointed out that this is a “living port” where fishermen and other residents have worked and lived for centuries. The Batana Ecomuseum presented the project this summer in the French town La Ciotat at the traditional “Sea Festival”, while the award was received in November in Marseille.
