On Monday, August 5th, on Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day and Day of Croatian Defenders, at the Fantazija Quarry, the opera “Nikola Šubić Zrinjski”, a famous Croatian historical opera by Ivan pl. Zajc, directed by Ljiljana Gvozdenović and skilfully conducted by Igor Vlajnić, was performed.

Besides the chamber orchestra, Ronald Braus, Lidija Horvat Dunjko, Vanja Zelčić, Siniša Galović, Martin Feller and Zvonimir Ivanović, soloists from Opera bb, and vocal group Valdibora from Rovinj also took to the stage.

In the middle of 2022, an EU-funded project dedicated to the preservation and educational and tourism valorisation of this area was completed. The project was run by the Natura Histrica Public Institution, with the Town of Rovinj-Rovigno and the Tourism Board of the Town of Rovinj-Rovigno as project partners and full support from the Istrian County.

Thanks to successful realisation of all project ideas, the quarry now boasts state-of-the-art visitor and interpretive infrastructure and offers professional interpretations of the geology and geological phenomena that can be seen at the site.

The Visitor Centre of the Fantazija Quarry geological monument has thus become the only site in the Istrian County equipped to receive a wide range of visitors and offering expert-led educational program in geology intended for pupils, students, and the wider interested public. It is open to visitors free of charge every day from 12 noon to 6 p.m.
