Spring in Rovinj – from Rovinjs fijoki to Wings for Life World Run Rovinj

With the arrival of spring, Rovinj once again becomes a place for new recreational programs and tours. The new cycle of programs organized by the Tourist Board of Rovinj-Rovigno brings free recreational and gastronomic programs and continues with its previously popular free guided tours of the city. Feel the breeze, free city tours, will be held, as in previous years, every Tuesday starting at 10 am. Departure and meeting with the guide are planned in front of the Rovinj-Rovigno Tourist Board, Trg na mostu 2. The two and a half hours tour of the city’s cultural and historical attractions includes a walk through the old town streets with a short break at the most interesting sites: Garibaldi Street, a family shoe repair shop in Zdenac street, Bregovita street, lookout, Church of St. Euphemia with a church tour, Grisia street, Porečka street, Garzotto street, Veli trg, Vrata pod zidom, town port, Marshal Tito Square, town clock, Batana Eco- Museum. The city tour includes a visit to the church of St. Francis of Assisi and the monastery collection, which houses a large number of liturgical objects and valuable paintings and sculptures. During the tour, in Casale street, participants will be greeted by a music program with musicians who will perform old traditional Rovinj songs called bitinade and arie da nuoto. In the local version of a tavern or wine cellar, Spàcio Matika, participants will be able to taste simple fish dishes, such as salted anchovies and the like
In addition to the free guided tour of the city that will begin the day before Easter, May will end with a new program for all interested guests. In the Rovinj Craft tours that begin on May 29, the participants will be able to learn about traditional customs, crafts and handicrafts within the old town core with free expert guidance from licensed guides. The tour will begin in front of the Tourism Board of Rovinj-Rovigno, at the address Trg na mostu 2. During the tour, which lasts about 2 and a half hours, the participants will visit the only remaining cobbler in Rovinj, in Zdenac Street, and the original Rovinj tavern – Spacio Matika in Vladimir Švalba Street, where they can take part in a workshop, preparing traditional desert – Rovinj fijoki. At the Batana Eco-Museum they will learn about Rovinj’s long tradition of fishing and batana boat, and in the museum’s vicinity they can watch how fishing nets are repaired, boats constructed or also repaired, and wicker demijohns crafted. The House of Rovinj Pelinkovac will teach the participants all about the manufacture of the renowned Rovinj bitter liqueur and other liqueurs that are produced according to a traditional, century-old recipe.
When registering, it is necessary to indicate the desired language of the guide. To participate in the Feel the breeze of Rovinj and Craft tours, you must register with the Tourist Board of the city of Rovinj-Rovigno by phone (+385 52 811 566) or e-mail (info@rovinj-tourism.hr) no later than 24 hours before the start of the program.
In addition to guided tours, spring will also be marked by the Istrian Riviera tournament cycle, which has been held for over 50 years, and the ''Rovinj Cup'' regatta will bring together about a hundred participants from Croatia, Slovenia and Italy.
April will begin with gastronomic delicacies in the spring cycle Putevima Rovinjskih delicija, and Rovinj will once again host the famous Weekend food festival, which will take place from April 11 to 13, and which will attract a large number of people with its new edition called Rangite!.
That spring brings a desire for movement and sports is also demonstrated by the international children's sports tournament The Power of Children in Motion, which will be held in Rovinj from 16 to 20 April and will host over 3,000 participants from various countries.
May will begin with Let's Climb Together on Zlatni Rt, where, in addition to experienced climbers, new participants are invited to try their hand at this sport in a beautiful location. Along with climbing, sailing and football, May this year will mark the internationally famous Wings for Life World Run marathon, which will be hosted by Rovinj on 4 May.
