Les Six - the anniversaries of Poulenc, Auric and Milhaud
On the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the birth of Francis Poulenc and Georges Auric and the 50th anniversary of the death of Darius Milhaud, the performers will present the style of these three French composers through a selection of the most famous pieces and introduce the audience to the socio-historical context in which they worked. The composers were members of the so-called group Les Six ("The Six"), among whom were Arthur Honegger, Germaine Tailleferre and Louis Durey. They came together as a reaction to Impressionism and Wagnerism, and under the influence of the new simplicity and clarity of Erik Satie's musical expression.
