Museum on the Foundations of the City: Results of Archaeological Research
Some of the findings found during the protective archaeological research conducted in 2021 and 2022 are displayed at the exhibition called Museum on the Foundations of the City, which traces the urban development of Rovinj from the late antique settlement to the connection of the island with the mainland and the time of the construction of the Califfi Palace. Visitors to the exhibition will also be able to see part of the city walls located in the foundations of the building and gain an insight into what this, so far unexplored, part of the city once looked like.
The archaeological research was carried out by the Croatian Conservation Institute, Department of Terrestrial Archaeology from Juršići, which is also the co-organizer of this exhibition, and the author of the texts is the research leader Josip Višnjić.

On the first floor of the Museum, the exhibition Case Study: Rovinj! Museum holdings as the raison d'être of a museum is set up, which shows a segment of museum work that often remains out of public view. The exhibition visualizes the ways in which the Rovinj Museum has collected art material in its seventy-year existence, and all the manifestations, events, and personalities that have influenced the formation of the collections in the form in which we inherit them today.
Among the selected works, you can also see those that have not had the opportunity to be exhibited before, thus further enhancing the museum's rich art holdings. This exhibition is the result of research into the ways of collecting museum material, with an emphasis on systematic and consistent management of museum documentation.
The author and curator of the exhibition is Elizabeta Rogović.

The exhibitions are open every day from Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 12:30 and from 16:00 to 19:00, admission is free.
