One of the most popular fusion bands today, multiple Grammy-award winners Yellowjackets, comprises musicians gathered by guitarist Robben Ford to record “The Inside Story” album. Robben’s contribution has decreased over the years and he has become a guest performer, while the band known as Yellowjackets continued to develop. The trio of musicians, keyboard player Russell Ferrante, bassist Jimmy Haslip and drummer Ricky Lawson, soon discovered a certain chemistry and musical affinity that resulted in formation of the band. Although members often alternated over the twenty-five years of activity, they always based their musical approach on a fusion of jazz, funk, R & B and pop, and sometimes world music, that they refer to as “rhythm and jazz”.
