The town of St. Euphemia hosted the First International Choir Music Festival, featuring for the people of Rovinj and the guests the Children's Choir Trantičice of Rijeka, the City Choir Brodosplit of Split, the Chamber Choir AVE of Ljubljana, the Academic Choir Ivan Goran Kovačić of Zagreb, and the Vocal Ensemble Ars Nova of Hungary, in addition to the local chamber choir Rubino.
Zdravko Šljivac, president of the Croatian Association of Conductors and Singing Choirs, said at the formal opening of the Festival the management of the Association decided to organize the international choir festival believing this was one of the fundamental tasks to educate its members.
This was also an opportunity to present the awards for exceptional contribution to the Croatian choir music to the deserving conductors: Antun Dobrički, Josip Jerković, Dušan Prašelj, Vladimir Kranjčević and Adalbert Marković. Zdravko Šljivac, president of the Croatian Association of Conductors and Singing Choirs, presented the awards to the conductors.
In addition to the performance of the Ljubljana Chamber Choir Ave and the award presentation ceremony, the audience had the opportunity to see the accompanying poster exhibition ''The Merry Croatian Singing Societies'', where the rich choir music tradition in Croatia was presented from the Illyric times to the end of World War II, based on numerous composers of sacral and secular affiliations. The presented posters are part of the rich collection contained in State Archive's funds in Zagreb.
The 1st International Choir Music Festival was organized by the Croatian Association of Conductors and Singing Choirs, and sponsored by the Tourist Bord, Maistra, and the Town of Rovinj.
