Stjepan Hauser, one of the best Croatian cellists, gave a concert in the Church of St. Francis within the scope of Baromus - Rovinj’s Baroque Music Festival. The concert was called Hommage a Johann Sebastian Bach since this young and promising musician from the town of Pula selected a program consisting of Bach’s works.
It is worth mentioning that this was Hauser’s second performance at Baromus and that after last year’s appearance, which was extremely well received by the audience, this talented cellist won the first prize at Vera Kantrovich Bach Competition in London. For this year’s concert Hauser has chosen Suite No.1 in G major (BWV 1007) and Suite No.4 in Es major (BWV 1010).
Stjepan Hauser was born in Pula twenty-two years ago. He finished high school in Rijeka and is currently attending Trinity College of Music in London in the class of Professor Natalija Pavlutskaja. When he was sixteen he became the youngest member of the Rijeka Philharmonic Orchestra, and as a soloist he performed with numerous prominent orchestras in Croatia and abroad.
In October 2006 he performed in Florence, at a magnificent concert in the honor of Mstislav Rostropovič, who attended the concert, and Hauser was the only cellist chosen for that occasion. That was followed by invitations to the most prestigious concert halls in Europe.
In November 2005 he made an appearance at Wigmore Hall in London as a debutant. He has won numerous international awards – MBF Music Education Award in 2005 and 2006, Frankopan Fund Award and first prizes at Vivian Joseph Classical Concerto and Leonard Smith & Felicity Young competitions. This world famous cellist is a member of the Greenwich Trio, an internationally successful award-winning musical trio, the winner of the audience award at Cavatina Chamber Music Competition or Trinity Laban SU Award. When the concert ended the audience called for an encore and Hauser played Saraband from Suite No. 5 in C minor by Bach.
