That there are traces of antiquity in the area of the Veštar Bay has been known for a number of years, as witnessed by material remains visible for the most part on the very shore. These include remnants of walls, floor mosaics, presses used in the production of oil and wine. Moreover, a host of ceramic shards, bronze objects, coins and other objects from antiquity but later periods as well were found on the shore and under water. However, the most valuable group of findings is composed of objects found during the time of research of the grave to the south of the bay.

The research conducted so far, which should fill in the missing pieces in the knowledge on the history of Veštar, was financed by the Ministry of the Republic of Croatia and the Rovinj Tourist Board. The exhibition in the Heritage Museum presents the results of research from 2008 to 2011, while this year’s findings are undergoing the process of restoration and will form a new, another exhibition.
