The best known marathon runner in the history of Rovinj, Mirjana Kmačić Pellizzer, honoring the sports manifestation „Popolana 2007“, completed a 100 km long marathon from Muggia to Rovinj.
Having finished after nine hours and forty minutes, during which she had to cross three borders and connect three countries, in addition to setting her own personal record, Kmačić Pellizzer motivated town’s sports officials to think about organizing the International marathon „Muggia- Rovinj“, which, as was announced by the Secretary of the Sports Association, Gianni Rocco, should be realized already next year.
The marathon lady’s arrival to central town square, where a warm welcome was prepared, was filled with emotions and ovations. At the stage, at which the Director of the Tourist Board Odete Sapač handed her the plaque and prize, Mirjana Kmačić Pellizzer told the audience that she dedicated this race to her fellow-townsman who never run.
