The second concert of the Multiculture Festival, the festival of culture and tolerance, was held at the main town square of Rovinj. On this occasion the organizers presented The Bollywood Brass Band, a famous ethno-brass band. As the host of the program Milan Medak pointed out himself at the beginning of the concert, the Multiculture Festival continuously confirms the town of Rovinj as the town of tolerance and cultural diversity. The Bollywood Brass Band’s music of the “open heart” spreads positive energy.

The Bollywood Brass Band plays multi-ethnic brass music and is specialized in the remakes of old popular melodies from Indian movies. The band is also the first European-Indian wedding orchestra. The Bollywood Brass Band includes British musicians who perform with famous bands such as Trans-Global Underground, Fun^da^mental and The Grand Union.

The band was set up in 1992 when they performed with Shyam Brass Band from Jabalpur (India) at the big international Street Music Festival in London. Their enviable reputation on the world music scene is a result of their numerous performances at the festivals from WOMAD to “Druga godba”, and the unforgettable performances at the street festivals and more luxurious London weddings. Their repertory includes the classic and the latest soundtrack hits, folk songs from the Indian county of Punjabi, songs of the great quawwali musician Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and wedding songs.

So far, they have released two albums – The Bollywood Brass Band and Rahmania. The last album Rahmania, released last year, includes 12 hits of the leading Indian composer of film music A. R. Rahman. The critics rated this album as one of the best world music albums in 2002. The band came to Rovinj a day after they performed at the well-known Krems Festival in Austria, and just before their upcoming performance at the biggest festival in this region – Sziget Pepsi festival in Budapest.
