The aptitude race itself was preceded by a short speech from the organiser of the ecological campaign. Small cyclists were greeted by the County of Istria Tourist Board Director, Tomislav Popović, using appropriate and fun vocabulary, who pointed out this was one of the oldest and most successful campaigns, ‘orchestrated’ by the County of Istria, its Tourist Board and its tourist associations, to which County Department of Education, Sports and Technical Culture, the Department for Sustainable Development and the public institution of Natura Histrica significantly contributed, including Zagrebačka banka this year. Apart from a speech from Valter Šarić, a representative of Zagrebačka banka and the principal sponsor, children especially liked the tunes by Arinka Šegando, imaginatively played on the guitar by Franci Blašković. The poet Drago Orlić regaled the young and made them laugh as well by stories of spring, bicycles, pedals, the dynamo, steering wheel and the bell, who once again proved to be an irreplaceable part of the ecological campaign since its very beginning, together with the Šegando-Blašković duo from Pula.

The small tour having finished and the awards given to those most successful, the adult tour started too, entitled ‘A Lap Round Rovinj.’ In its eighth edition, despite murky weather, it attracted record numbers of participants. Their goal was to finish the track 25 kilometres long, starting from the town, through the forest park ‘Golden Promontory,’ the tourist settlement Villas Rubin, Madonna di Campo, and the ornithological park Palud. It should be pointed out the principal goal of the ‘Let Istria Shine’ campaign is to animate as many inhabitants of the Peninsula as possible to contribute themselves – by having regulated environment, flowers on terraces and balconies, clean coast and sea bed – to agreeable environment – such as its locals and their numerous guests desire and deserve.
