Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization, Taleb Rifai, dazzled by the beauty of the town
The town of Rovinj is hosting the 100th jubilee session of the Executive Council of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). On that occasion, in the second part of May it hosted around two hundred participants, that is, forty delegations from around the world, including the Secretary-General of the UNWTO, Taleb Rifai, and the Vice President of Iran, who is also the President of the Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts & Tourism Organization (ICHTO), Masoud Soltanifara.
Speaking of tourism, its development and future, this distinguished guest also delivered an interesting lecture to the students of Rovinj secondary schools, using his opening statement to express his amazement at the beauty of the town, pointing out to young people that they should be happy to live in one of the most beautiful towns in the world. When addressing the reasons why Croatia has been chosen to host this jubilee session, Mr. Rifai stressed that Croatia is a leading tourist destination and the country in which the development of tourism is one of the major priorities.
He also highlighted the existence of two revolutions, when considering trends on the global scene – information revolution which fundamentally changes and networks the world, and travelling revolution that opens new horizons and offers different perspectives.
‘Today you have breakfast in one, lunch in the second, and dinner in a third country. Globalization is all-present, every seventh citizen of the world is a traveller, and the fact is we have more and more in common - we speak the same language, use the same mobile phones, drive the same cars, listen to the same music. However, tourism enables us to express diversity in this universal unity. But to enjoy the journeys and the beauty of the world, we have to act responsibly for ourselves but also towards the planet Earth’, said Taleb Rifai, the Secretary General of UNWTO, to the young people of Rovinj.
