THE 8TH SUMMER SALSA FESTIVAL HAS CONCLUDED
Salsa – wherever you turn
As it has already become a custom, thanks to the eighth edition of the Croatian Salsa Festival, for the last three days Rovinj had lived, breathed and danced to the rhythm of salsa. More than three thousand lovers of this sensual Latin dance have attended the Festival to show off their skills and learn from the best dancers of the world. To learn the steps you had to dance – and one danced almost everywhere – at and in the pools, at the ballrooms, on the streets and squares and all along the town’s waterfront.
The huge open air dance party held at the central square, Trg Maršala Tita, was the highlight of the Festival, at least for the audience. The evening began with the Amateur Couples Competition, got heated with the performance of one of the best Cuban groups, Elio Revé y su Charangón, and continued in the same vein with the Professional Salsa Competition.
Besides the performances, the crowd enjoyed the dancers' attractive clothes and shoes. Salsa dress code requires imaginative clothes with glitter and sparkle, and not one more piece of clothing that is not absolutely necessary. Attractive female dancers, their equally handsome partners and the Festival hosts gave their best to encourage the whole square to dance to the rhythm of salsa.
The Croatian Salsa Festival is an international event and the highpoint of the Croatian salsa scene development. The Festival is for all the future dancers eager to learn their first dance steps, as well as for the more experienced ones who wish to perfect the demanding dance figures. Beginner and advanced dance lessons are held during the day by top international instructors who teach salsa, rumba, sona, cha cha cha and other, mostly exotic Caribbean, dances.
The Salsa Festival is organized by the company Salsa Adria produkcija and the dance club Los Mamberos. Their efforts to enrich the tourist offer of Rovinj and Istria have long been recognized by the Festival partners, who have been supporting the Festival for the last eight years – the Tourist Board of Rovinj, the Town of Rovinj and the company Maistra.
