Rovinj Night, an event that has been organized for over two decades by the employees of the town Tourist Board and which has become not only a trademark of the most tourist town, but also its most expected event of the year they never failed to arrange, once again did not disappoint the numerous fans.
According to the visitors, it was even one of the most successful ones. The reasons for this are quite obvious. Excellent music, good Mediterranean food and attractive launching of a batana, the original Rovinj fishing vessel. In terms of music, the first of the three nights was without a doubt marked by the heavenly voice of Vinko Coce and his legendary performances of „Mirno spavaj dušo moja“, „Ribari“, „Vilo moja“, „More li“ and „ Da te mogu pismom zvati“, which the audience wanted to hear several times.
In addition to Coce, the central stage was filled with the powerful voices of the members of the Luka women’s harmony singing group and the Joško Banov orchestra that played for Zorica Kondža, one of the best female voices on the local scene. The excellent and inspired Mirko Cetinski and the members of the Party Band ensured a good atmosphere and lots of dancing on the other stage, situated at Veliki Mol.
The Batana folk band, Sergio Preden Gato, Oriana Vozila and Marco Garbin Culture & Art Association also performed on that stage.
The entire event was filled with the spirit of tradition and the smell of the sea. The intoxicating aroma of pilchards and calamari came from the grill, and the feast also included homemade sweets such as fritule and fioke, while the good wine was an inevitable part of the fishermen’s festivity.
On the quay, they knitted and patched nets, made coops, and the biggest and most attractive feature was the launching of a batana into the sea. The fifth batana called Liliana, named after Rovinj’s singer Liliana Budicin Manestar, was launched into the sea by the members of the Batana House Association and christened with champagne by skipper and sea wolf Silvio Brunelli. The very launching of the boat, which was patiently built by Mladen Takač and his assistant Gianni Giuricin during summer nights on the town quay, was attended by the husband and son of the late singer, Vitomir i Robert Manestar.
After the ceremony, the batana was presented for care and use to Rovinj’s fisherman Dorian Malusa. In addition to the Tourist Board, Maistra and the Batana House Association also took part in the organization of this attractive and eventful night.
