‘A Product of Croatia’ (Hrvatski proizvod) is the title of the exhibition of photographs by a well-known Croatian performance artist Vlasta Delimar. With these photographs, she presented her work to numerous visitors at the Native Museum of the City of Rovinj. Presenting ten posters featuring her naked in the company of famous artists, whose bodies are also unhidden by clothing, the author of the exhibition entitled ‘A Product of Croatia’ points to the beauty and value of the human body that is, in spite of the passing time, ours, unique and irreplaceable. The artist also points her finger at the unscrupulous exploitation of a young woman’s body that is utterly unnecessarily and inappropriately used for commercial purposes. “A woman should never be degraded, she should never be exploited,” says the author who has, with her provocative exhibition, done something all artists dream of - she brought visitors back to the exhibition space.

Vlasta Delimar lives and works in Zagreb. Since 1972 she has presented thirty or so performances in as many towns, from Glasgow, Klagenfurt, London, Sarajevo and Belgrade, over Zagreb, Graz, Trieste and Lyon, to Quebec, Kyoto, Buffalo etc.

These are some of her reflections on her latest project, ‘A Product of Croatia’:
„The human spirit often fears itself. The nakedness of the body revealing the feeling of being left with nothing accompanied by an erotic act is equivalent to execution. We can be appalled by our own eroticism. The utilitarianism of eroticism has been questionable from the beginnings of Christianity and, as such, undesirable. If it can’t be useful, what good is it?”
