Regina Carter is the most respected violinist of modern jazz, regularly declared as the best on the lists of jazz critics, as well as by readers of reputable music magazines. She is a classically educated musician who learnt to play the violin by the well-known Japanese Suzuki method which is the method of playing by ear.She has worked on important collaborations with Max Roach, Oliver Lake, Kenny Barron, Ray Brown, James Cater, Cassandra Wilson, Wynton Marsalis, Steve Turre, Carmen Lundy and the Uptown String Quartet. As a bandleader she has published eight albums, and another five as a member of the String Trio of New York. Distinguished musicians have participated in the recordings of her albums, amongst others Barry Harris, Cassandra Wilson, Richard Bona, James Carter, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Paquito D'Rivera. Her repertoire consists of her own compositions, as well as the works of composers of various styles such as Duke Ellington, Billie Holliday, Charlie Parker, George Gershwin, Thad Jones, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Maurice Ravel, Luiz Bonfa, Astor Piazzola, Claude Debussy, Ennio Morricone...
