Monte Restaurant Awarded Michelin Star

We are proud to report that the Monte Restaurant in Rovinj, run by a husband-and-wife team of Danijel and Tjitske Đekić, became the first restaurant in Croatia to win a Michelin star. For a restaurant to be awarded a Michelin star, perfectionism, hard work, perseverance but also passion and love for cooking are needed. The Michelin Guide has been creating gastronomy trends and selecting the best restaurants for over a century. The selection process follows precise and strict evaluation rules. Michelin inspectors visit restaurants in secret, and were invited to visit the ones in Croatia by the Ministry of Tourism. In their online guide for 2017,Michelin inspectors recommended 35 restaurants in Croatia, of which 13 restaurants are located in Istria. 

The owners, while proud of their Michelin star, point out that they have already been following the Michelin standards and global culinary scene for years. The gastronomic guide Gault & Millau declared Danijel Đekić this year’s best chef in Croatia.
