The House of Batana Wins the Experience Croatia Award

At this year’s presentation of awards by the Croatian National Tourist Board, organized as part of the Days of Croatian Tourism held on October 24/25, 2013 in Zadar, Rovinj was once again recognized as an award-winning town. This time, it was Rovinj’s House of Batana Eco-museum that won an award in the Cultural Institutions

– Experience Croatia category. Secretary Livio Chiurco accepted the award in the name of 130 members of the museum and the association. - The House of Batana Eco-museum has for the past nine years been the mirror of our maritime history and tradition. We are therefore proud to have been recognized by the Croatian National Tourist Board as generations of fishermen and other citizens of Rovinj have lived with this autochthonous legendary boat. We have preserved it from falling into oblivion and it today represents an integral part of the cultural and tourist image of our town - said one of the founders of the House of Batana and the coordinator of the Marino Budicin Association.

This ‘living’ multimedia museum has been recognized in the world as well. In 2007, the Association of Mediterranean Maritime Museums listed the Batana Eco-museum as one of the four most beautiful ones in Europe. The Port of Rovinj has recently been nominated in the category of the most beautiful historic ports in the Mediterranean. The award will be presented to the winner in Marseilles, France, this year"s European Capital of Culture, at the end of the year.
