Art Colony Rovinj 2003, organized in the Regional Museum of the city of Rovinj, brought forth this year’s laureats. The first award of the Regional Museum was given to an art degree painter Tomislav Brajnović, and the second to his professional coleague Vlado Martek. The award of the Regional Museum to a young participant this year went to Robert Sošić and Petar Brajnović, while the first buy-out award was given to Goran Petercol, and the second to Ljiljana Vlašić. The honorary award of the city of Rovinj “Batana” was delivered to Predrag Goll. The president of the City Council Davorin Flego delivered all the awards to the laureats, who were chosen based on the prize-awarding committee composed of Professor Berislav Valušek, Sabina Salamon and Iva Korbler.

In addition to that, this year’s art colony celebrated its 50th anniversary, which was also an opportunity to remember its beginnings. The director of the Museum, Arge Curt, stated that it dates from the year 1953, when only four artists, its founders, Bruno Mascarelli, Zora Matić, Tomislav Brajnović and Darko Naunović, under a joint name “Valdibora” exhibited their work.

In the meantime, the colony was during all those years a place of gathering for the painters from all parts of the former country, who had given Rovinj a cultural stamp and significance with their work and creativeness, but also with their staying and living there.

The colony was also a gathering place for artists of all generations and styles, a unique place where art and imagination have no limits. As Iva Korbler writes in the introduction to this year’s catalogue: “The colony is characterized, besides its positive environment, also by a number of the greatest names in Croatian painting and plastic arts who exhibited there, from željko Hegedušić, Ljubo Ivančić and ?uro Seder to Vlado Martek and Nina Ivančić.
Along with that, it discovered significant names (conditionally) of the local art scene without whom would the image of the Croatian Art be empty, lacking and unimaginable - Slobodan Vuličević, Ouintin Bassani, Mauro Stipanov, Nikola Ražov, Siniša Majkus, Silvije šarić, Ljiljana Vlačić and Antonio Rubbi", writes, among others, Iva Korbler, stating that “if one should judge the cultural and art level of a certain environment according to the longevity and survival of art events which occur there in continuity, then the example of the Art Colony in Rovinj is a really good model of perseverance.”

Art works of the jubilean 50th Art Colony Rovinj, where 34 artists exhibit, can be visited until September 6th.
