A sculpture exhibition titled „Matter, Body, Work, and Space “by Mirko Zrinšćak, academic sculptor, presents this prominent artist to the Rovinj's public and his works will be on display for their enjoyment at the Multimedia Center until the end of July.
For this exhibition the author has chosen ten works dating from 1994 to 2006. These sculptures are timeless and nameless and, according to the sculptor's wish, should penetrate the viewers’ souls by themselves, so he could recognize and name them, if possible. According to the art historian Berislav Valušek, the author of the catalogue - „A Sculptor from Učka “ viewers and consumers by not knowing the names of the sculptures are directed to their own and subjective experience.
„Even though sculptures are defined by the place of their origin they lack any connection with the actual time of their coming into existence. Long time period of their production, exposure to weather conditions, the continuity of transformation, elegant existence in space, namelessness and their lack of chronology, the simplicity of form and material, the minimalist actuality united with organic shapes make these works timeless. And being timeless means and it always did, which is a paradox, being ahead of one’s own time”, said Valušek.
In addition, it should be mentioned that Mirko Zrinšćak, after graduating from the Faculty of Pedagogy in Rijeka, studied painting at the Accademia di belle Arti in Venice, and after finishing his studies he spent a year in Kiel, Germany, as a guest-artist. From 1985 he exhibited at more than 20 art exhibitions home and abroad and at about 15 solo exhibitions.
Among other things, he represented Croatia (with Martin Kramer and Goran Petercolo) at the 16th Venice Art Biennale and his work earned him the Town of Rijeka Award. His works are represented in the collections of the Gallery of Modern Art in Zagreb, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rijeka, and private collections of domestic and foreign art collectors. The exhibition in Rovinj was sponsored by Rovinj and the Rovinj Tourist Association.
