On Assumption Day, Crveni otok (the Red Island) near Rovinj saw the 10th jubilee concert by "Ronald Braus and Guests". This birthday of the music and stage manifestation, that not only has been occurring for a decade but has turned into a prestigious social event with every passing year, was organised by the Rovinj Tourist Board and the tourist and catering establishment "Maistra".
The jubilee picked its venue in the courtyard of the Hütterott caste, and the picturesque harbour that was illuminated for the occasion by torches and candles on decorated tables, thereby creating a fairy-tale and magical appearance for the entire scene.
The concert evening, that, judging by the number of performers, resembled a festival, started with the host Ronald Braus greeting and performing the evergreen "Moja mala djevojčica" (My Little Girl). Performances by the golden generation singers followed - Anica Zubović, who also celebrated her 60th anniversary in the artistic circles, Višnja Korbar, who shone first at the festival of "Opatija 1962", and – naturally – our most famous sea wolf - Mirko Cetinski. Younger spectators were thrilled by Matteo Tromba and Antonija Šola, as well as by the actor couple Marija Omaljev and Miraj Grbić.
The concert evening was also full of witty jokes by the journalist and editor Vojo Šiljak and the acrtress Mila Elegović, who – especially for the occasion – dressed as Marilyn Monroe, and sang the ‘presidential’ Happy birthday, Mr. Roni, Tourist Board and Maistra.
Apart from well known and cherished tunes from the 1970s, arias from operettas and duets were not lacking either – thanks to prominent opera divas – the soprano Lidija Horvat Dunjko and the mezzo-soprano Blanka Tkalčić, accompanied by Vesna Ivanović Ocvirk on the piano. The audience enthusiastically greeted the Belgrade actress Vesna Čipčić as well, who – accompanied by Zoran Tairović, recited poetry of famous poets with inspiration. The musician Bruno Krajcar, also a surprise performer, interpreted own compositions and thereby reminded the audience of the beauty of the Istrian scale, while especially loud ovations were given to the composer and musician Ljubo Kuntarić, the author of the evergreen "Ta tvoja ruka mala" (That Little Hand of Yours) and "Autobus Calypso", who emphasised Rovinj was a town he fell in love again with each new visit.
This year’s jubilee concert was also marked by the recent death of Nuša Marović, the first Croatian Top Model, who wanted to walk the red carpet of the Hütterott family castle. The first decade of the concert "Ronald Braus and Guests”, also had its birthday cake, and the attractive fireworks. Braus himself, as the mover of this music and stage event received a thank-you plaque from the Rovinj Mayor, Giovanni Sponza.
