As part of the art program of the town of Rovinj, this year's third exhibit presenting a sculpture, which is the joint work of three young and talented final year students from the Zagreb School of Fine Arts – Zdravka Ivandija, Natalija Škalić and Josipa Štefanec, has been opened at St. Thomas’ Church.
The sculpture represents a square covered in narrow orange, yellow and red stripes, while the inner side of the square is paneled in mirrors, and threads of the same color have been put in its centre.
Dario Sošić, who is a museum custodian, named the sculpture ''Kaleidoscope'', in which the interior of the church and the faces of observers are being reflected.
The artists say that the sculpture has been specially adapted to the interior of the gallery. More precisely, they explained that since the ground plan of St. Thomas’ Church is in the shape of a square, they wanted to emphasize that fact even more, by placing another square in its centre. With the sculpture and its intense colors and reflecting mirrors, they have created an intervention of the entire space by ''breaking'' the whiteness of the gallery with color, and the mirrors made it look even bigger to the observer. With the use of the reflection of the square concept, they managed to achieve another effect because, at the same time, they made it possible for the observers to become a part of the exhibit by seeing their reflection in the mirrors.
