3 RD AVANTGARDE JAZZ FESTIVAL GRAND FINALE
The evening when the whole Rovinj danced
The conductor Saša Nestorović with his Croatian Radio-Television Jazz Orchestra and the fantastic Simon Marlow ended the 3rd Avantgarde Jazz Festival in the best possible way on the central square of Rovinj.
The two-hour program made both visitors and locals dance like they never had before with numerous world hits and evergreens by the Beatles, Paul Anka, Sinatra, as well as Freddie Mercury's “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” and Kurt Cobain’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. The audience was especially raptured by the performance of two Croatian timeless hits – “Prolazi sve” by M. Koerbler, “Još samo večeras” by D. Diklić, and by the H. Mancini’s cover of “Sad ili nikad”. Besides these, world hits like “Strangers in the Night”, “New York, New York”, “Fly Me to the Moon” delighted the audience, so it’s no wonder the performers came back out on stage for three encores. They were also treated to Sinatra’s “My Way”, the song “You Can Leave Your Hat On” and Oasis’ “Wonderwall” at the end of the concert.
The performance of Simon Marlow, the singer and performer educated in Oxford, who was accompanied by the excellent Croatian Radio-Television Jazz Orchestra, was a true delicacy for all fans of musicals, as well as the audience, transported by the beauty of his voice to the golden age of swing. His performance featured the singers Jana Fabijanić and Marija Rupčić who had performed “Big Spender” from the popular musical “Sweet Charity”.
The sponsors of the third edition of the Avantgard Jazz Festival, which had brought international stars like Dee Dee Bridgewater, Otis Taylor, Amira Medunjanin, John Pizzarelli and Rudresh Mahanthappe to Rovinj, were “Adris”, the Tourist Board of the Town of Rovinj and the Istria Tourist Board.
