A time machine that took us back to the 1950s
The Dolce Vita Heritage Festival, celebrating vintage culture in all its forms – music, film, design, fashion, dance and food – took place in Rovinj. The town of St. Euphemia showed it was not attractive for its beauty and landmarks only, but also for its helpful hosts, the Maistra hotel company and the Town Tourist Board, as well as a wonderful welcome extended to both local and international guests who truly enjoyed this attractive 4-day event.
Thanks to all them, Rovinj relived its past during the first weekend of June. The fashion, hairstyles, designs and music from the 1950s and 1960s occupied the town quay and stores, while beautiful pinup girls made strollers sigh and look. Special attention from the audience was received by full-length evening concerts on the town Square that made even the most rigid “standers/listeners” dance and have fun. Because the task of opening the concerts was more than successfully performed by Gelato Sisters, the Croatian version of Andrew Sisters. In addition to them, the square saw many performers, including the world famous Italian lounge band Montefiori Cocktail whose hit is featured on the soundtrack of the universally famous Sex and the City show, Good Fellas, and Swingers & Natalie Dizdar. However, those who thought the fun was over after the music in the square stopped were very wrong because it merely moved to the former tobacco factory where many performed, including the Sugar Daddy and the Cereal Killers band, Twist & Shout, Billie and the Kids, the legendary British neo-rockabilly band Polecats, B and the Bops, and many others.
In addition to music, concerts and parties, the former tobacco factory proved to be an excellent “living room” for old timers, Vespa bikes, vintage furniture, various exhibitions, projections, and dance and hair & makeup workshops. All this and much more could be seen, experienced, and even purchased at the 2nd Dolce Vita Festival.
