The City of Rovinj, the traditional host of Easter concerts, welcomed the young Italian pianist Livio Minafra, the author of three jazz albums and the winner of the Top jazz 2008 prize that is granted to young talents by Musica Jazz magazine.
The author decided to perform the compositions from his second album „La fiamma e il Cristallo“ on his solo concert in Rovinj, held at the Franciscan Monastery as part of the already distinguished Gandusiana - ethno music event that gathers the most prominent singers and musicians from the so-called world-music scene. The concert began with the sounds of the church organ and continued further on with virtuous piano playing.
According to the author himself, the name of the first among the performed compositions was „Rintocchi“ and it was dedicated to the immigrants who are exposed to sorrow and solitude on their way towards a new life. His authorial piece „Choo choof“ in which he abundantly used the sound of the bells along with piano sounds, evoked the rhythm of movement of steam locomotives and also evoked the images from the old black-and-white films.
The piano composition of the lullaby „Ninna per Mimma“ produced the sounds of bells, while the composition „La danza del vulcano“, as the name implied, sung about the volcano dance.
The jazz improvisation concert by Livio Minafra that gathered a great number of musical connoisseurs who came from the town and from all over Istria, ended with the composition entitled „Nella notte il cristallo“. This composition told the audience a musical story about the author's vision of the night in which we contemplate our lives.
