On the 18th of July, under the sponsorship of Croatian Ministry of Culture, “Book carrier on Adriatic” sailed into Rovinian city port. The idea for this summer book tour came from “Mozaik knjiga”, renowned publisher from Zagreb. Having started its summer adventure in Dubrovnik, main tourist attraction in Croatia, a ship full of books and men of letters was anchored at the popular “small pier” near the main square in Rovinj since the early hours of the morning. In a short period of time the pier turned into a genuine little book market with lots of stands and publications.
Regarding books, it was clear from the start that there were about 1000 well preserved items from personal collections and many other editions, beside in Croatian, available also in English, Czech, Hungarian, German and Italian version. Among all these books, atlases, encyclopaedia and cooking books stand out with both their appearance and their price. To avoid uniformity, captain-publisher made sure to include some respected Croatian writers in his crew. Among other duties, they tirelessly signed their works and attended to curiosity of locals and foreign guests from all of Europe (potential customers).
Except writers, recognizable touch to this interesting cultural advent was given by additional, entertaining-cultural program for children and adults. The program for children consisted of scooter races, painting and dancing workshops, and for adult's forum of different style writers and concert of popular Croatian music stars. Renowned Istrian folk group was also well accepted as well as our guest, brass orchestra from Luxembourg with great performance of themes from world’s classical heritage. From the moment of docking the atmosphere on the main city square and surrounding tourist spots was getting warmer as the time past towards late afternoon, and as the evening hours came it was brought to maximum. Hot summer cocktail with a taste of relaxed and entertained Europe was boiling, especially in appearance of attractive, worriless young girls with smiles on their faces that, full of energy and curiosity strolled through picturesque streets of Rovinj.
After successful visit to Rovinj, the Book carrier on Adriatic peacefully sailed to some new adventure.
