Apart from magical music, the spectators were particularly impressed by group entrances of ballerinas, which presented all the splendour of white ballet. Equally impressive were solo acts – by court fools, Rothbardt the wicked magician, the queen, including those recognisable ballet scenes: the three swans, the swan quartet, the Hungarian dance, the Spanish dance, the Naples dance and the Mazurka. Gasps of enthusiasm that accompanied almost each entrance were caused by brilliant costumes as well, but primarily by the brilliant music by P. I. Tchaikovsky. An all-time plot, centred around an enchanted beauty, the swan queen Odette and prince Siegfried thrilled the audience, which awarded the Russian Imperial Ballet artists with a long, standing ovation.
The Swan Lake by P. I. Tchaikovsky, choreographed by Gedeminas Taranda, director of the Russian Imperial Ballet, was staged on the Hotel Eden lawn after the performance held in the Arena in Pula. The new stage next to the outdoor pool was too little to receive all interested spectators. It was already an hour before the ballet show that all seating places were taken, so the audience encircled the stage in a wide arc, trying to see the performance from the best angle possible.
The reasons to come to Eden lawn were plenty. Among others, admission was free, so it should be pointed out the ballet performance of the Swan Lake, which is one of the most popular, canonical works of ballet literature, is also probably the largest happening of this year in Rovinj, presented to citizens and guests by the employees of Maistra and the town Tourist Board.
