It is our great pleasure to announce that the Red Bull Air Race World Championship 2014 will take place in Rovinj on April 12/13. The official part of the competition is scheduled for 12 and 13 April, and the training session will be held on 11 April 2014. For the first time in its history, the new European series brings this fastest aviation competition to Croatia, Rovinj. The Red Bull Air Race World Championship gathers the world’s top pilots who combine speed, precision and skill to navigate fast, maneuverable planes between 25 m high pylons (air gates).

The race track in Rovinj will extend along the northern coast of the town, in the immediate vicinity of the old town center, thus ensuring the race a spectacular background. Thousands of visitors will have a chance to experience yet unparalleled air spectacle in Croatia. The organizers are announcing that, along with Britain’s Paul Bonhomme who will be looking to win his third consecutive championship title this year, there will be 11 other world’s top pilots from nine other countries fighting for the title. The novelty introduced in the program by the organizers is the Challenger Cup Race. Pilots participating in this race aim to advance to a higher level and enter a list of Red Bull Air Race World Championship pilots.

The Red Bull Air Race World Championship 2014 kick-off event will traditionally take place in Abu Dhabi and, after its second stop in Rovinj, the race will move to Malaysia, Poland, Great Britain, the United States and China.

THE SECOND ROUND OF THE AIR RACE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP COMPLETED

An air spectacle in the skies above Rovinj

As many as eighty thousand visitors in the stands and the town and viewers in 85 countries watched the three-day air extravaganza Red Bull Air Race in Rovinj, which ended with Austrian pilot Hannes Arch’s victory. It is no secret that Arch had wished for such outcome before the final race and encouraged his compatriots to join him in Rovinj. He did not let them down because he was 85 hundredths of a second faster in the last race than the two-time world champion Paul Bonhomme. Japanese pilot Yoshihihide Muroya took the third place in this second round of the Air Race World Championship.

Unlike the sporting and competitive part, a grand prix for organizing the spectacular duels in the sky should be presented to the town of Rovinj and all its residents. Because only the very best are able to extend hospitality and helpfulness to everyone like Rovinj did. The event was organized and prepared perfectly, with nothing left to chance. Having realized what kind of a spectacle was about to take place and what kind of promotion it represented for Rovinj and Croatia, all residents gave it their best. The event of the year was completed with flying colors. Bars and restaurants used their best efforts as visitors queued for drinks and gourmet snacks, while the spectacle in the sky was accompanied by a musical spectacle on the ground, with plenty of good music and dancing along the Rovinj waterfront and across its main square.

In addition to numerous familiar faces and celebrities, tourism minister Darko Lorencin was also in Rovinj. Besides enjoying the acrobatics in the sky, the reason for his visit was the presentation of the HOT SPOT CROATIA program and promotion of the first Wi-Fi hotspot installed in Rovinj. This is a program launched by the Ministry of Tourism last year for the purpose of financing Wi-Fi hotspots in all tourist destinations. This year, sixty destinations, including Rovinj as the first one, will install hotspots and display specific labels indicating to guests where a Wi-Fi hotspot is located and where they may take photographs that they will later share via social networks. Such a label also has a QR code providing direct information about a destination.
