The city of St. Euphemia hosted the First national photography festival „Photodays 2008“. The selection committee presided by Tihomir Milovac had to select the best among 320 authors and five thousand photographs. The photography prize „Kadar“ was awarded in eight categories. The most successful in architecture category was Robert Spudić, and prizes were awarded to Renco Kosinožić, Nikola Matić, Dušan Grbac and Guido Stocco. The category for generated photography had its laureates as well, with Marko Beslać having won the first prize and Vedran Marjanović, Bojan Bonifačić, Marko Cerovac and Davor Sanvincenti ranking after him. In addition to Patrik Maček, also awarded for the journalist photography were Stipe Marinović and Samir Kurtagić, while Jelena Popić ranked the first in the nature, society and art category, followed by Saša Novaković, Ivana Marinić Kragić, Matko Mijić and Zoltan Nađ.
As we have learned from one of the initiators of the Rovinj Photodays Denis Redić, the project director, the objective was to affirm and better position the art of photography.
- Given that Rovinj is one of the most beautiful and photogenic towns in Croatia, it was a logic choice to have it host the First national photography festival in cooperation and sponsored by the Hotel Group Maistra, said Redić, adding that Rovinj has that certain quality – a combination of tradition and modern which makes it unique and special.
In order to emphasize those opposites which are complemented within the two-day Photodays, a happening titled „Timeless lines“ was organized along the waterfront and the old town. Photographers and all interested tourists and citizens were given a chance to take some of the most beautiful shots of cars and models. On one side they were able to take photos of old timers in “company” of girls dressed in clothes from the 60tees who were depicting the beginnings of Rovinj tourism, and on the other side new expensive cars with models depicting the modern and luxury Rovinj.
In addition to general sponsor „Maistra“ d.d., Astoria d.o.o. from Rijeka, (which publishes the magazine LivingStone, known for its quality and attractive photos) was also the organizer of „Photodays 2008“.
