Construction of a batana, an original Rovinj fishermen’s vessel, began before a large number of tourists and local guests at the Big Pier in front of the “Houses on Batana” Eco Museum. The 5.5 meters long boat is being built by Mladen Takač, a boat-builder who will be making it throughout the summer, evening by evening, plank by plank, nail by nail, in order to complete it for the launching ceremony to be held in the early September.
Last year, the outdoor construction of a batana in front of curious strollers turned out to be a very attractive tourist project. Namely, last season Takač built the first batana with the help of some apprentices, which the locals later named Fiamita.
The construction of the second Rovinj batana took place within the fishermen’s festival. Culture & Art Association Marco Garbin, the Batana folk band, the Lungomare harmony singers from Umag, and the popular Rovinj singer Sergio Preden Gato took care of the good atmosphere and music, accompanied with fish and good wine. The first fishermen’s festival this year was jointly organized by employees of the Eco Museum, the Tourist Board, and Maistra.
