NEW BIKE TRAIL OPENED

Basilica – Heaven for Cyclotourists

A new bike trail was opened in Rovinj at the beginning of September. We are referring to the route named Basilicathat was, at the initiative of the employees of the Tourist Board of the Town of Rovinj working in cooperation with the representatives from the Town of Rovinj and the Native Museum, cleared and turned into a bicycle, hiking and educational trail in the length of 19 kilometers. Basilica intertwines with the former Rovinj-Kanfanar railroad route put out of operation in 1966Part of the trail that passes through protected natural sites hasbeen asphalted, while the rest is a macadam path. The four religious buildings, unique heritage gems of Rovinj, that the route passes along, namely the Churches of St. Bartholomew, St. Christopher, St. Thomas and St. Protus, ensure the trail its own special beauty and charm

In order to present the beauty and attractiveness of the new trail to all the cyclists, the Tourist Board of the Town of Rovinj organized a promotional ride for all interested citizens. About sixty cyclists, both recreational and passionate ones, responded to the invitation and managed to „conquer“ the trail pedaling for three hours with several 5-minute breaksAlong the trail, they had a chance to savor the view of and pass through beautiful Istrian landscapes, each new pedal turn bringing them to a new attractive vista of Istrian vineyards, oliveplantations, fruit orchards... In addition to numerous interesting locations worth stopping at, there is one above Lim that is especially attractive as it offers a spectacular view of the Lim Channel

As many as twelve info/educational boards and eight direction signs have been installed along the Basilica trail at the main trail locationsThe trail is enriched by four newly-arranged resting areas with benches and tables. For all those who wish to conquer the trail, the Tourist Board has printed a brochure in four languages (English, German, Italian and Croatian). It contains descriptions of trail locations and a map.
