Just when the Croatian national football team members left Rovinj, where they had trained for several days, the central town square once again hosted the best – the coach Slaven Bilić and a few home team footballers. That is, large photographic panels, part of the open-air exhibition featuring 400 large format photographs of media companies and other participants – Cropix, Novi list, Glorija, FotoMag, the Croatian Photography Association and photographs from Photodays workshops, again showed their nation-wide renowned smiling faces.
The second Photodays Photography Festival is ongoing in Rovinj, the manifestation including national, professional and contestant participants of the Croatian photography community, with awards given to authors of the best achievements created during the past year, in several photographic categories.
The Photodays awards fall into twelve categories – architecture, advertising, fashion, publishing, nature, people, free genre, erotica, generated and newspaper photography, monographs and portfolio (photographer of the year). It should be pointed out the jury panel, composed of President Berislav Valušek and members Andrea Klarin, Enrico Bossan, Michael Muller, Reiner Opoku and Bruketa&Žinić had a difficult task. They were supposed to select the best among 690 authors in total and 10,800 works that had been applied for the contest.
Apart from workshops and lectures, the first day of Photodays also included two attractive exhibitions. The Regional Museum opened the first exhibition “The Best of Hasselblad Masters“ in the whole of Europe, composed of some thirty-odd photographs by the most prominent authors who, regardless of their different background, age or photographic orientation, utilise the Hasselblad equipment.
Photography buffs were also able to enjoy the exhibition by Marija Braut, this year’s winner of the “Kadar“ award for life achievement. The renowned artist presented herself by the exhibition entitled “The Best Known Photographs”, the same black and white photographs that are the trademark of her life and professional voyage and expression.
The second Photodays in Rovinj were, along the general sponsor of Maistra d.d. and co-sponsor – the town Tourist Board, organised by the company Astoria d.o.o., through their publishing project of LivingStone magazine, known and recognized precisely on account of the excellence and quality of its photographs.
