In cooperation with the Rovinj Tourist Board and the Association Vela al terzo from Venice, the organisers Ekomuzej (Eco-Museum) and the association Kuća o batani (the Batana House) and the Sailing Club Maestral- Ronhill staged the fifth in a row regatta of ancient vessels with the lug and Latin sail in Rovinj waters.

This traditional and exceptionally attractive regatta gathered thirty-two sailboats from the northern Adriatic, the skilled manoeuvring of whose captains, whether the boats were batanas, pasaras, gucis or gajetas, was enthusiastically applauded and whooped on from the coast, as well as recorded on cameras by numerous spectators.

Among the vessels, which were recognised by the locals on shore even as far away as the horizon by their shapes and sails of different colours, there were even three batanas with sails, constructed by the work of the eco museum the Batana House. This very construction, which takes place on the quay during summer months, instigated this young and surely interesting regatta, where the sea wolves of our and Slovenian part of Istria participate, as well as those from the part of neighbouring Italian coast.

This year’s peculiarity of the regatta of ancient vessels with the lug and Latin sail was a hundred years old sailboat with two masts, which had sailed from Trieste.
