This year’s Populana was once again targeted at children during its first day. The youngest citizens of the town – the princes and princesses of Rovinj kindergartens showed just what they know and can do in play and competitions at the quay, in front of excited parents and friends, while the animation team of Maistra demonstrated what it looks like when children’s birthdays are organised by them. Following a performance of the Marching Band and the attractive Rovinj majorettes, sports and recreation programme was held, targeted primarily at young sports categories, which unfortunately had to be cut short on account of rain.

It should be pointed out as well this year’s Populana, which also has a strong humanitarian character, is undertaken under the slogan “For You and For Me”, and has the goal to make people aware during this Volunteer Year of the issue each must help those that require help by own behaviour and actions. Having this in mind, the quay included sales stalls where one could obtain T-shirts with the Populana logo (donation by the Tourist Board), while flower pots of the "Skink" farm and handicraft created by the industrious hands of the beneficiaries of the Adult Home "Domenico Pergolis", the Association of the Disabled of Rovinj and town kindergartens were sold as well.

All revenue from the sales of T-shirts, flower pots and souvenirs goes for the purchase of a wheelchair for Mr Emilo Sinčić, suffering from multiple sclerosis. This sales and humanitarian campaign, during its first day, despite the rain, showed the great heart and nobleness of Rovinj folk – so the big HRK 6,570 were raised but in three hours. The three-day manifestation takes place under the patronage of the Town, the Rovinj Tourist Board and the hotel company Maistra, while it is executed by the Association of Sports of the Town of Rovinj.
