Twenty second times in a row, yachtsmen from Rovinj, participants of traditional regatta "Rovinj- Pesaro-Rovinj" will sail across Adriatic and dock in Italian port of Pesaro. Again this year, the weather did not work in their favor so the yachtsmen left the town of St. Eufemija with their sails lowered and accompanied by rain.
Some fifteen sailboats with a hundred crew members will take the route of old, medieval sailboats and sail across 79 miles in one direction, which should take them between 12 and 16 hours. Tourist community officials led by Director Dario Einić, and accompanied by a singer Mirko Cetinski and journalist Elio Velan will use their stay in the brotherly port of Pesaro to promote Rovinj and will distribute promotional material, Istrian culinary delicacies and quality wine to visitors.
In addition, the veterans of Basketball club “Rovinj", which second year now make one of the numerous yachting crews, will play a friendly game with the basketball veterans of Pesaro. It should be noted that the local team has a Split resident, Željko Jerkov, one of the best basketball players of ex Yugoslavia and of the Italian club "Scavolini". The return of Rovinj yachtsmen is expected on 30 April, when the regatta will be fortified by some hundred yachts from Pesaro. It should also be noted that this largest and the oldest trans-Adriatic 1. May regatta is organized by the Rovinj Tourist Community and Yachting Club "Ronhill Maestral" in cooperation with "Lega navale" from Pesaro.
