14th of the August 2001. According to the waterfront tonight, we can see that tourist occupation has been a total success. At night, murmur of gentle voices in different foreign languages is unavoidable sound scenery to the ear of a silent promenader. Under the weight of numerous visitors the square could even sink. For that reason, we decided to settle down at one of the terraces where they offer you always-welcome refreshment or are simply used as observation places.
Members of the Wind orchestra from Pula have also decided to be a part of this loving atmosphere at the square and their trumpets, trombones, contrabasses, flutes, saxophones and drums were announcing a pleasant music meant for the audience, which is always present. Round 9 p.m. the orchestra started to play their first melodies.
The Wind orchestra from Pula was formed of the former musical societies of the city in 1993 and is active under that name since then. At the moment, the orchestra has got 78 members and 50 of them performed at the Rovinj main square. Quite enough to prove once again that they are one of the best wind orchestra in this area.
Also, the first place won in the national championship held in Šibenik last year, a golden plaque from the music festival in Ravna Gora and bronze medal won at the international wind orchestra show in Kopar, confirm they are one of the best. This year too, the musicians from Pula performed brilliantly their recognizable repertoire, which contained jazz (standard) and famous pieces from chorus and film music.
Rovinj is one of their meny stops along the Adriatic coast where they are going to stay this summer. Also on the 25th of May, this year, Rovinj was a host-city to a meeting of brass bands from different places.
After they have phased the audience with their great and delightful one and a half hour show, the musicians, together with their instruments, set out into the night and left behind the tourist Mecca of that part of the Adriatic, and us, who were slowly falling into sleep.
