That is, Rovinj, for the sixth time in a row was the host of an attractive regatta that, this time, attracted crews of as many as twenty-six boats coming from Slovenia, Italy, as well as domestic ports. The competition of boats took place along the sea route from the Great Pier, through St Cross and the isle of St Katarina, to Valdibora. In the competition of large boats, the most successful were the crew of the “Saor” from Trieste, while the “Kondor” from Pula came second, with the “Ampleta” from Izola coming third. Among the large fishing boats, gajetas, the “Kety” from Monfalcone crossed the finish line first, followed by the “Murter” from Murter. Small boats also had their favourites. The first boat comes from Poreč, and the second is owned by the Rovinj townsman Željko Kutić.
The fourth group of those awarded is comprised of double-enders. The “Laurana” from Lovran came first, while the boat from Rab was second, with the boat sailing under the code of MD 551 from Mošćenička Draga being third. The batana, the symbol of the host town and the authentic vessel of fishermen from Rovinj had none to compete with so the first three boats all come from the town of St Euphemia. The first batana was the “Calsanta” owned by the Venier brothers, the second was the “Fiamita” of Giuricin Sponza, while the third position went to the batana “Ungrino” with the crew of Benussi, Venier and Gržinić. Out of other fishing boats, the winner was the vessel from Mošćenička Draga, followed by the one from Fažana, and the boat from Izola. Among pasaras, half-decked boats, the “Pussycat” from Italian Grado was the winner, with the “Piros” from Izola and the “Luna Rosa” from Portorož following behind.
Small boats were led by the crews from Opatija. The first had the code of OP231, the second OP392, with the last one crossing the finish line sailed under the code of OP1110. In the twilight hours, the spectacle was moved onto the shore and the Riviera Square, where one could see the winners receiving awards and hear the domestic tunes interpreted by the a cappella klapa “Mela” from Murter and the folk group “”Batana”. The feast would be no feast without anchovies and a drop of home produced wine, which were there thanks to industrious members of the “Batana House”. The sixth in a row Rovinj regatta of traditional vessels with mast and Latin sails was held under the patronage of the Town, and sponsored by the Town Tourist Board and the Tourist Board of the Istria County, the Rovinj ACI marina and the Legend-Restaurant “Maestral”.
