Despite the fact that the free give-away of decorative shrubs and tree saplings is in its eighth consecutive year, the interest for the plants has not subsided. On the contrary, it is getting larger year in and out, just like the queue of citizens that is created in front of the Tourist Board on the morning of the issue day. In order to get what they want, Rovinj folk patiently and calmly waited for their saplings in large numbers, showing up to thirty minutes before the scheduled hour.
It should be pointed out Tourist Board employees were well prepared, and were so accordingly not surprised by the huge interest of citizens, but guests of the town of St Euphemia as well. That is, a record number of saplings had been ordered – 650 pieces, ranging from fig and gooseberry, to raspberry, blackberry and currant, which caused quite a craze this year. Along with saplings, rosemary and lavender were also given away.
This green campaign of the Rovinj Tourist Board employees is the only of its kind on the peninsula. This is a concrete step forward within the ecological campaign of ‘Let my Istria shine’ – the goal of which is to decorate, clean up and render our yards, balconies and gardens green.
