THE FIRST EDITION OF THE GOURMET WEEKEND BIKE TOUR

Cyclists delighted with the beauty of the landscape and the offer of local dishes

The Tourist Board of the Town of Rovinj, Rovinj’s Craftsmen Association and the hotel and catering establishment Maistra organized the first Gourmet Weekend Bike Tour in the Rovinj area. This two-day event consisted of two trails with a total length of about one hundred kilometres. However, despite the number of kilometres, both trails, as proved in practice (and witnessed by participants) were mastered by the participants with great enthusiasm. Indeed, it was impossible to determine which trail, together with the stops and the culinary content, was better.

On the first day of this recreational cycling tour, with extremely good weather conditions, the participants started from the former train station towards the estate in Golaš, and then to the final destination - restaurant Feral. In the meantime, 50 km needed to be crossed, with a stop at a beautiful lookout on the Lim Fjord for the morning refreshment break - Istrian sausages, bacon, goat cheese and homemade desserts, of course. Golaš and winery San Tommaso were the second "check" point at which the cyclists enjoyed homemade bean soup and sausages, and the excellent wines of this Istrian producer. This was followed by a visit to the picturesque town Bale and oil plant "Grubić", where they witnessed the process of olive oil production, and tasted several samples of this green and gold high-quality and a much-sought liquid gold. The last stop was the restaurant Feral, where the cyclists enjoyed meat delicacies, seasonal vegetables and excellent seasonal and sweet desserts.

On the second day of the bike tour the participants had to take a shorter but more difficult trail. Although the start line was at a known location, this time the final destination was the tavern "Barba Danilo", which based its menu on the seafood dishes and the abundance of desserts. But it was not that easy to get to this delicious menu. The first gourmet stop was in Rovinjsko Selo where the cyclists could first look around and then taste a dish called “Fažolada na Seljanski” prepared in the so-called Partisan and mobile kitchen. The participants were also thrilled by the tour of the unique aromatic park Histria Aromatica where they walked through the plantations and gardens with spices, medicinal and aromatic herbs. Also, this was the ideal opportunity to visit a 7 meter deep cave from which a beautiful olive tree   raises high in the air.
