After numerous eco-actions that have been taking place on land during the last few weeks, the Tourist Association in cooperation with the Diver Sport Center Rovinj, the Rovinj of Underwater Activities and the Croatian Diving Association organized a big cleaning action in order to clean up the seabed in the Rovinj area. This year’s eco-action, sixteenth in a row, was organized under the slogan “Together Again in Cleaning the Rovinj Seabed” and it was the central action of the cleaning of the Adriatic underwater area.
The cleaning took place at four locations in Rovinj – the aquatorium of the tobacco factory, city harbor, Lone Bay and the lighthouse area. About thee hundred divers from 69 diving clubs from Italy, Slovenia, Serbia and Croatia answered the organizer’s call and in two hours they cleaned out the seabed of various objects that do not belong there. Far from the eyes, the sea depth mostly contained broken fishing nets, plastic chairs and car tires, but also a large number of bottles and glasses.
Thanks to the traditional eco-action a large amount of waste was removed and transported to the town dumping-ground. During the following season people of Rovinj and their guests will have a clean and attractive underwater view thanks to the Tourist Association and divers, including the VIP guests - Thomas Osorio, UN representative to Croatia, Carlin Sofi, the Cultural Attaché to the French Embassy, and Anne and Vincent Degert, the Head of the European Commission delegation to Croatia.
After cleaning the sea, fish stocking was organized in the Villas Rubin tourist settlement. Sea bass fry, three hundred fish, were released into the sea. This year’s eco-action finished with letters of thanks and statues that were given to the representatives of all diving clubs. In that way the Rovinj Tourist Association expressed its gratitude to all divers for they unselfish contribution in the cleaning action. Furthermore, a representative of the Croatian Diving Association, Lucio Lorencin, gave plaques to the organizers – the Rovinj Tourist Association, the Rovinj of Underwater Activities, the Diver Sport Center Rovinj and the town of Rovinj and Maistra d.d.
After the eco-action, fish stocking and the award ceremony, three hundred divers continued to celebrate on the Rovinj sea promenade accompanied by the Party band and the Rovinj Brass Band.
