The traditional feast being held for over two decades and organized by the Tourist Board – the popular Night of Rovinj, which has tourism employees bidding goodbye to the high season and thanking guests and visitors for their stay in the town of St Euphemia, was divided into two music and gastronomy nights this year. During the first night, rich fishermen tradition was presented at the town quay – nets were mended and bottles and jugs wrapped up in rope, seafood and wine were offered – and all of this was also accompanied by domestic music and folklore in as many as three points in the town.
However, the highlight, that followed after the opening of the exhibitions of water colours by the young Rovinj student - Laura Bosazzi – who presented motifs of the sea and her birthplace, was the launching of the traditional boat, batana, into the deep blue. The vessel having been restored, its launching from the Small Pier was watched by a large number of guests who witnessed this unusual spectacle by clicking and rolling their cameras. We should remind that this year’s season already included two restored batanas, thanks to the Association of Batana House. The first, launched end of July, bearing the name of the twin city of Rovinj “Adria“, is owned by the native Angelo Sbisa, while the second, dubbed “Camaiore“, is in possession of the fisherman Riccardo Zovich. The third and final wooden boat will be launched end of the following month, during the Mediterranean Maritime Museum Forum, that is announced to take place in Rovinj from 21 to 23 September.
Along with the launch, numerous visitors were able to enjoy music as well. The Square of Marshal Tito resounded with Dalmatian tunes, as interpreted by the best Croatian klapa choir – “Bonaca” from Šibenik. The home band of “Le Monde” also received loud applause, which was helped by the excellent Evica Čiček, who thrilled everybody present with her renditions of good old rock hits. The “Le Monde” proved this night too there are no rivals in this area at least.
The smaller stage, located at the Riviera Square, had the bands of “Batana“, “Prijatelji“, “Party band“ and the culture and arts society of “Marco Garbin“ entertaining, while the most attractive venue – the most famous old town of Rovinj street – the popular Grisija – included a show by the klapa “Sveti Petar“. Apart from the employees of the Tourist Board, credit for successful organization and numerous visitors to the manifestation should also be addressed to the Town and the catering and hotel establishment of “Maistra“, who were patrons of the event.
