THE FIRST EVENING OF THE TRADITIONAL ROVINJ NIGHT FESTIVITIES
Tony Thrilled his Fellow Citizens with a 2-hour Concert
The first evening of one of the oldest and most famous festivals in the Adriatic, the famous and always eagerly awaited Rovinj Night, was marked by Tony Cetinski, definitely one of the best Croatian voices. It is no small thing to sing in one's own town but during his two-hour concert Tony demonstrated the mutual love between him and Rovinj through his songs and a fantastic performance. During the concert that gathered both the old and the young, the locals and the tourists, at the main town square, the singer proved once again why he has been at the top of the Croatian music scene for years and why his star never fades.
Relaxed and in a “home” atmosphere, Tony performed hit after hit and the audience, who were in a good and dancing mood, sang together with their idol. In addition to the well-known songs, the audience had an opportunity to enjoy lavish production as well – an attractive stage with a huge video wall and a rich light show, by which the organizers of the Rovinj Night, employees of the Tourist Board of the Town of Rovinj, demonstrated that there is always room for positive surprises for the guests ad the audience even when it seems that the event could not possibly be greater or better. It is exactly with such a lavish production and an excellent choice of performers that the town could best express its gratitude to all the guests for coming to the town of St. Euphemia and the tourism workers for yet another in a series of rich and successful seasons.
But, although Tony Cetinski was the main star of the first evening of the Rovinj Night festivities, other performers also contributed to its success: the Master Band that entertained the audience at the Riviera Square, the multiple award-winning keyboard player from Rovinj, Kristijan Terzić, who performed on this occasion featuring the Night Fever band and the attractive Tascha from Pula.
Except in the rich offer of food and drinks, the visitors who came to Rovinj from all parts of Istria and wider, had an opportunity to enjoy yet another event characteristic to Rovinj, the ceremonial launch of a reconstructed batana fishing boat into the sea. More precisely, for several years in a row, Rovinj and the members of the House of Batana Association (Kuća o batani) have been making efforts to keep the old customs and traditions from falling into oblivion. The repeatedly awarded project to preserve the batana fishing boat, threatened to be entirely pushed out from the town port by plastic boats not so long ago, has been designed to that end. Over the recent years, Rovinj shipbuilders completed five new boats and reconstructed eleven.
Each launch was an event in itself. The last launch, accompanied by the sound of the bottle of Champagne breaking and the unofficial Rovinj anthem, Viecia Batana, attracted a large number of spectators. The last, 16th batana was launched into the sea under the name of Liliana. It got this famous and recognizable name in the memory and respect of one of the best bitinada singers, the great Liliana Budicin Manestar.
